Making a living is not as simple as it once might have been. There are fewer jobs, additional well qualified candidates and an expanding selection of non traditional ways to make a living. This is a short list of online sources for jobs, labor market information, and alternative labor. This short list barely scratches the surface, however. There are many more sources tailored to specific careers, such as human resource professionals, computer and internet technocrats, social service workers, medical coders, and educators.

The list is organized in the same way you would search for a job. It begins with researching the local labor market and determining your unique strengths and traits. Next social networking tools are listed. These are places that list physical meetings of people working in particular occupations and professions – a great way to meet people doing the kind of work you might want to do. Next are online social networking groups where people can share tips, ideas and experiences about various kinds of work. Following that are traditional job posting sites. These sites allow searches of local job postings that can be filtered for very narrow results. Last are non traditional ways of earning money. Part time, hourly, online and other emerging opportunities are listed here.
